Incase Camping Equipment
Project Brief: Take the existing brand language of a company and use the brand language to design something far outside the current product lineup.
Our small design team was given the choice of 3 companies to work with and we chose Incase because of its strong brand identity. One aspect we really liked is that their entire product line is comprised of accessories or products that are meant to improve the experience of using other products not made by Incase. We did not want to just pick a product that is already made and then create a case for it so instead the choice was made to focus on the experience of camping. In other words, the product will enhance the experience of camping without interfering with the experience.
Cooking was identified as an important part of the camping experience and was chosen as the part of camping to design for. For the project we had to create a family of three products; one being jointly designed and the others individually designed. Our jointly designed product was a stove because it is the main component of cooking while camping. An induction stove top was chosen for a number of reasons including; safety, no need for propane or other fuel, and efficiency. The problem with induction stoves is that they only work with certain types of metals so I focused on designing a pot that would work on the induction stove top as well as fold away for compact storage. The pot uses two rubber straps to hold it together and as a place to grasp when hot.
